Awards and Recognition
Children’s National Medical Center and its physicians have been recognized with many awards and distinctions, including:

- Children’s National Medical Center is honored to be one of only seven children’s hospitals in the country named to The Leapfrog Group’s 2008 Top Hospitals, based on results from the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey.
- Children’s Research Institute ranks 9th for most highly funded NIH pediatric institutions in the country
- Children’s National Medical Center was one of only eight children’s hospitals in the country named to The Leapfrog Group’s 2007 Top Hospitals, based on results from the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey. Children’s National was the only pediatric hospital selected from the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions to receive this designation.
- In October 2009, both the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence, making Children’s National the first hospital in the nation to have two pediatric units receive the award at the same time.
- Children’s National Medical Center’s IMPACT DC (Improving Pediatric Asthma Care in the District of Columbia) program received the National Environmental Leadership Award in Asthma Management from the US Environmental Protection Agency, May 2006
- Haynes Rice Community Service Award presented for meritorious service to improve the health status of the communities served by DCHA members by demonstrating leadership to solve problems and overcome barriers to cooperative action (Goldberg Center for Community Pediatric Health Generations Program)
- 2006 Children’s Environmental Health Recognition Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency presented to the Mid Atlantic Center for Children’s Health and the Environment (MACCHE)

- Honors Edition, Guide to America’s Top Pediatricians, 2005-2006
- Denice Cora-Bramble, MD, received the Health Leadership Award from the National Hispanic Medical Association, 2006.
- Mendel Tuchman, MD, was the 2006 recipient of the Robert Guthrie Award for Advances in Biochemical and Molecular Genetics given by the American Association for Mental Retardation.
- Roger Packer, MD, executive director, Center for Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine, was awarded the Raimondi Medal of Honor by the Midwest Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation. This award is given to honor a researcher who has made a significant contribution to the field of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology.

- Children's 2008 Annual Report, Defining a New Era, received a Silver Award from the 2009 Aster Awards
- Silver Award from the 2009 Aster Awards for direct mail piece series
- Children's National's web site received an Award of Distinction for best web site design from the 2008 eHealthcare Leadership Awards
- Children's National's newly re-designed website received a Bronze Award from the 2008 Aster Awards for excellence in marketing
- Children’s 2007 Annual Report, Transforming Children’s Health, One Child at a Time, received a Gold Award from the National Health Information Network.
- Children’s received a Gold Award for the 2006 Greystone Best in Class Award for Most Innovative Use of Technology for a Web Site
- CRI Annual Report, Aspire Research received a Bronze medal for 2006 in the Non-Profit/Government Annual Report category of the Summit Creative Awards
- Children’s 2006 Annual Report, Aspire for Me, received a Silver Aster Award
- Gold Award presented by Aster Awards to Design Central for the 2005 Children’s Annual Report
- Communicator Awards - Award of Distinction and an Award of Merit for publications and the Annual Report
- ADDY Awards in the following categories: Out-of-Home, Consumer Magazine, Newspaper, Television and Illustration Campaign
